The Climbing Areas
Denny West (Climber’s Left)
Denny West has a shorter approach and concentrates the area’s more moderate climbing. If you’re warming up or looking for routes in the 5.10-5.11 range, start here.
Key walls:
- Moonshiner Wall: Great beginner-friendly routes on solid rock, gets morning sun
- Orange Wall: High concentration of quality 5.10s
- Big Tex Cave: Steep routes in the 5.11-5.12 range
Denny East (Climber’s Right)
The extensive Denny East side stretches for over a mile and includes the crown jewel: The Buffet Wall.
The Buffet Wall is Chattanooga’s most concentrated 5.12 wall, with over 20 routes at the grade and climbs up to 100 feet long. The unique rock features limestone-style sidepulls on the lower gray rock before transitioning to bulletproof, cocoa-colored sandstone where most routes hit their crux. This wall stays dry during wet weather, making it a solid rain day option.
